Good engines overall but the ethenol played hell on the high pressure system and the high pressure pumps fail because most people dont know that they have a self contained lube system that used lower unit oil and needs to be changed just like the lower unit. The HPDI like all direct injection motors are very loud. They burn alot of oil and drink alot of gas.

Hey guys this is my first post. I just bought a grady with twin HPDIs the stbd motor is having oil transfer issues. I know there have been a million threads on this and I have read all of them but I am stuck and at a loss.
I went through the troubleshooting manual here is the run down. This piston kit will fit all Yamaha 33 liter HPDI STD bore 3661 Power Heads. Piston is a full cast and comes with Rik Japanese high performance rings.
Wiseco pistons are forged and use Wiseco high performance rings. Order Std size pistons if you are only honing your cylinders. This 2004 300 hp Yamaha is made for saltwater.

If your saying you motor is a 2004 and only have 40 hr on it. Low hours and just as bad as a ton of hours Pull the vst and inspect. Chances are you have gunk that is clogging the filter on the high pressure pump and send you injector out for service.
Look for water damage.
