But it is the one with a ball type end and it broke exactly at the ball end. Well if you shoot enough ammo through the gun the gas will heat up the gas block which will heat the set screw which may expand enough to allow the broken Allen wrench to drop out especially if you cool the wrench bit with some ice while the block is hot.
While removing the three bolts holding the clutch slave cylinder to install a Yoyodyne the allen wrench broke off in the upper left bolt.
Allen wrench broke off in bolt. With all due respect drilling out the snapped end of an allen key shouldnt really be a pain if its protruding higher than the allen bolt mole grips should pull it out. If its further in. While removing the three bolts holding the clutch slave cylinder to install a Yoyodyne the allen wrench broke off in the upper left bolt.
No big deal you say except that it broke off flush with the face of the bolt head and there is nothing to grab in order to pull the stub out. The only other thing to do is get a dremmel and grind a slot into the head of the bolt take a hammer and punch and try to tap out the broken end of the allen wrench. Once thats done you can get an impact driver and remove the bolt with the larger slotted screw adaptor.
Try jamming the end of the broken allen wrench on it and see if you can tighten it a jiggle to just unbind and loosen up the broken part. Try whacking it with a small 4 oz or so hammer to see if it can get bounced out. Use a drill on the broken end of the wrench to see if you can actually drill it.
Take a dremmel tool with a cut off wheel and make a cut across the broken allen. Sometimes allens get twisted in the hole and are hard to get out the cut will allow you to use a flat blade screwdriver to twist the broken piece the other way and remove it use a magnet if necessary. If the set screw is on a key it shouldnt damage the shaft.
If the set screw is on the shaft it will scar the shaft but you can clean that up with a little grinding. If you are going to grindcut it I have an air saw with hack saw blades just split it. Just not at the set screw.
A broken off allen wrench might pop out with a few taps from a punch if not galled in due to being the wrong size. Also possible it was too big and got tapped in. Using metric where SAE belongs and vice versa can result in such catastrophically wrong fits.
- Try again with an Allen wrench - If still stuck JBWeld an Allen wrench into the screw and try again the next day. The JBWelding will take a bit of finesse since the set screws are recessed. IF the boltwrench is concentically recessed 34 it might be possible to make a one-time-use drill bushing out of some unhardened steel.
Then you could use a carbide drill in the bushing. A light touch until the drill is started might help reduce the chance of shattering the drill. Buell 1125R Motorcycle Forum - Allen wrench broke off in a bolt help.
Posted on Tuesday July 20 2010 - 1047 pm. I was installing my new frame and my Allen wrench snapped off in the bolt. The part that snapped off is flush with the edge of the bolt so I.
Had a similar problem many years ago with an allen bolt in the bottom of a motorcycle fork. Recessed about an inch and the allen head stripped. Work hardened the bolt head running a drill too fast then broke off an easy out.
Spent three nights with a Dremel tool and small stones grinding down through. Painfully slow but it worked. The wrench used here is premium quality Facom if you heard about is the best you can buy here.
But it is the one with a ball type end and it broke exactly at the ball end. So just bad luck here not bad tool or bad use actually I unblocked 7 of the 8 bolts. Take a dremel tool put on a cut off wheel a fine one lay gun on flat secure surface make sure gun dont move turn the dremel on and cut a slot in the bolt head get it deep enough that you can get a wide screwdriver to bite on the head.
7142017 83256 AM EDT. Id try to loosen the broken off head in the socket using a pick of some sort like an ice pick or scratch awl. If you can get it loose in the socket a neo magnet should get it out.

The rebound adjuster knob is attatched to a 25mm allen key. I think that you used a 5mm allen key on the shaft bolt and not a 25mm allen key through the hole in the shaft bolt. That bolt head that broke off should have a hole in it for the allen key to fit in.
The bolt is easily available at any shop. But a good carbide drill bit the size of the screw head would would work too. Once you have the screw head off then the screw body isnt under tension you can use a pair of pliers to unscrew it.
Many people use the cheap allen wrenches. But sometimes you can get a new wrench to work on the stripped screw too. Once youve found the bolts its really handy to have a breaker bar.
A breaker bar is a long wrench-like bar that doesnt ratchet. Using it with wrench-style sockets you can pull up or bear down on the handle to create a great deal of torque. Generally one to two feet long breaker bars give you length and the length gives you leverage.
The single bolt that holds the seat on - I think it is a 9mm bolt head with an Allen head socket in the middle - broke when I was removing it. One side of the bolt head just broke away so I cant use either a socket or an Allen wrench to remove it. I tried drilling it and using an EZ Out but it didnt work.
A regular bike bolt fits in there and probably it goes all the way. So screwing something into that doesnt give me much grip either because it turns the same way. Any ideas other than take it to the bike shop.
The reason I need to replace the brake is that the small metal rod which pushes the brake away during releaseing the brake broke. If you cant hammer a torx bit into a stripped out allen then drill it. Just drill a hole slightly bigger than the diameter of the threads of the bolt.
The head will break right off. Once the head is gone there is no tension anymore and you can twist the old threads out. You just need a new bolt.
Allen Wrench Set Whether you need to change your scope remove your front end or tighten down lose bolts a set of Allen wrenches is a no brainer. Broadhead Wrench Broadheads can come lose time to time. A broadhead wrench stored away in your pack can keep your fingers safe when they need to be tightened back down.
