Best epoxy for ski repair. Epoxy adhesive is the best option for permanently repairing a ski. Buy an epoxy with good reviews in the niche and make sure it is formulated for high temperature swings as well as high flexibility. Read the directions and rules carefully.
You can start by spreading a layer of epoxy which covers the area of the delamination. Generally I find regular epoxy is a bit too brittle for any lasting repair on skis or boards. It chips and cracks too easily and this allows moisture in past the repair.
I used an epoxy glue that is used to glue metal togetherlike sheets of aluminium. Loctite 608 Hysol Epoxy Clear is good for small repairs and topsheet delams. Also check out epoxy from marine stores like West System Epoxy like West Systems G-Flex.
Keep in mind youll need your skis to be warm and completely dry before applying any adhesive to the ski. Fast cure epoxy has the least amount of flexibility when it is cured. It cures really stiff and really brittle so it shatters when the ski flexes.
I know some ski shops use hardman brand epoxy. JBWeld is a good hardward store epoxy for filling holes and gouges. Light grey in color.
Thicker is helpful for building up gouges. I used it for some sidwall repair for my Bro blems and it has held up very well. Epoxy is great for filling holes and such.
If you really have a delam issue you cannot fix it with epoxy. You can glue a top sheet back down on the tip of a recreational ski. For a high end ski if it is coming apart stop skiing on it immediately.
You cannot fix structural damage. If it is just the gell coat missing and the fabric is still well covered with epoxy it is not a big deal as it is still watertight but repairing it sooner rather than later is better. If the surrounding gell coat is good eg you cant chip it off with your nail easily and if you dont care much about appearances you can just smoosh some epoxy on the spot and paint with white touch-up auto paint.
To repair wait until the ski is completely dry and use a small amount of quick drying epoxy sometimes called five minute epoxy to fill the nick. Another quick note - if youre referring to significant sidewall nicks caused by normal use the manufacturer will often replace the ski under warranty. If you keep just one epoxy on your ski bench it should be this one. Great for top sheet delams smaller base patches. - Tognar and a few other snowboardski sites sell Hysol 608 as an ideal exopy for delamination repairs.
Looking at the technical sheet it has a shore D hardness of 80. Im not on engineer but apparently this correlates in some way to how well it can flex. The ski is still good.
No delamination even with the chuncks out of the side wall where the top plate meets the ski. Skis should not delaminate after only 3 4 or 5 seasons of use. Well Ive been away from skiing for a few years so maybe I stand corrected here.
Dimensions can vary depending on the size of boards and skis you repair but it s good to leave enough room to hold several at once. Leave ski or boards in the box for 1 to 15 hours to let most epoxy repairs fully cure harden. After hot waxing leave gear in the box 15-20 minutes to allow the base to absorb as much wax as possible before.

There was space below the replacement piece so the edge was in the epoxy top bottom and base side. I used screws to hold it in place but the core was so wimpy and spongy I removed them as they werent providing and strength and were just going to be in the way of the remaining repair. The Fast Set Epoxy is the favorite for repair of ski binding screw pull-outs.
The Slow Set retains flexibility and is used for the repair of ski sidewalls or top skin damage and delamination. If I have bad top sheet chipping that gets to the core I just lather it up with some 2ply to keep water out anything else is overkill. Cutting things out is really for base repair the top sheet should be fine with just putting epoxy on it.
Use epoxy resin and cloth built up in sufficient layers to reach original thickness. There are several threads on this forum on how to do the work. After curing the patch may be ground sanded and polished to match the original contours.
