There are a few possible causes to missing power from an engine and here are a few things to ponder.
Boat engine revs but no power. If you have a situation where you increase the throttle on your outboard and the boat doesnt go much faster chances are the rubber bushing in the propeller. Boat shifts and revs but doesnt accelerate. Turn the engine off shift the drive into gear get out and try to turn the propeller.
If it turns and the internal hub stays put take the prop off and bring it to a propeller shop for a rebuild. Your engine may have old gas in the tank. Fuel in the last couple of years now has up to 10 ethanol. This ethanol attracts moisture water and debris which reduces fuel quality and may cause the engine to run rough or not at all.

Apr 16 2009. I have a 98 Sportster 1800 with twin 720s. When I throttle up from idle to plane one engine revs high to limiter but provides no thrust.
The dealer thought there might be air leaking thru the drive shoe so I have had the drive shoe re-sealed on that side but still have the same symptom. Engine revs high but lower speed If RPMs jump and speed stays the same do as mentioned above. Test for a spun hub on your prop.

Regularly service and replace the impeller. Also look at the condition of its housing. Scarring or pitting of the metal housing can cause even a good impeller to lose pumping power.

Sold 2000 951 RX to a friend of mine. We tested in and out of water before I sold and everything was good. He took it out the next day and the maint light came on.
He looked at the info center and saw 352. Checking the throttle or fuel solenoid control linkage a more common issue than youd think itself is super easy to figure out. Adjust or check the linkage or control mechanism until the lever or shaft hits the stop andor goes slightly into the spring override if.
