I can get in my car and drive on the highway or around town and the temperature gauge will read completely normal but after about 20 minutes the needle will start to rise getting as high as the red. Everything under the hood seemed to be normal.
Higher than normal temperature it starts to swing toward hot.
Engine hot but temperature gauge normal. Just remember that engines whose exhaust exits toward the front of the car will seem hotter than engines whose exhaust exits toward the firewall. It may not necessarily be that the engine is running hot and more than likely your gauge is actually reading the correct temp. My 25 boiled over yesterday but the temperature gauge was still in the normal area the first I knew was when steam was coming out from under the bonnet.
Replaced the head gasket last week and Im starting to think that it hasnt done the trick. It never boiled over before. I have an 99 Tahoe with the 57 engine.
I just had the Tahoe worked on by a local mechanic and he had replaced and flushed the coolant and thermostat. He performed other work but nothing to do with the coolant. When I got the truck back I noticed that the temp gauge was fluctuating more than normal.
It would go up to 240 and then back down to 195. If the temperature gauge is unable to give a steady reading it is a sign that this might be the cause. If the radiator cap of your vehicle is not properly tightened it can cause the temperature gauge to reflect an inaccurate reading.
Also note that a faulty temperature gauge can cause the engine hot but temperature gauge normal. If it seems like the engine is running hotter than normal but the temperature gauge isnt indicating that its overheating it could be an issue with the temp sensor being faulty. Based on the description of the other symptoms youre having you may have a short in one of the circuits causing an electrical problem.
If the upper hose is extremely hot and lower hose cold at such high engine temperature then your water pump or thermostat must have failed. Usually it should be the thermostat if yours is still present in the engine but if you have been using water in your cooling system then it could be that your water pump blades has rusted and disintegrated making the pump to stop pumping. I have a 2005 Honda Accord LX.
A few months ago the temperature gauge started reading hot. I can get in my car and drive on the highway or around town and the temperature gauge will read completely normal but after about 20 minutes the needle will start to rise getting as high as the red. The crazy thing is that when I pull over to check the engine the temperature is completely normal.
Normally the gauge shows the average temperature which means it is not too hot or too cold. This means everything works fine until you see that gauge to be running hot. The gauge running hot indicates that the engine is excessively hot that it can breakdown.
The temperature gauge can show hot without the engine overheating which still means that is a problem. To tell for sure if it is a gauge or a cooling system problem use a. To check the thermostat housing when the engine is running.
It should not be above 210 degrees. Temp sender unit is faulty. Remove the sender unit wire and earth it against the bodywork and the gauge should go straight up to hot.
This indicates that the gauge and wiring is. Overheating with normal temp on gauge. The heater core would not cause you needing a quart or two of coolant to fill it up.
And the water pump would not affect this either. Something is blocking the system it could be something in the radiator or something in one of the hoses. Posted March 12 2011.
I have a 2008 1500 4x4 43 V6 with 40000miles. Recently the ENGINE HOT AC TURNED OFF warning pops up but the engine isnt really hot. It seems to reset itself after a while.
I though it did it more in wet weather but today is dry though yesterday rained. It did this yesterday. Engine running hot but not overheating.
J162_165342 June 8 2020 232pm 1. I have a 2001 mustang v6 that runs slightly warm at highway speeds only especially at higher speeds of 70 mph or more. I can idle the car for a long time or drive at city speeds and the temperature gauge stays right in the middle.
For most cars the normal operating engine temperature is in a range of 195 to 220 degrees Fahrenheit though most dashboard temperature gauges dont show an exact temperature. Replace the thermostat if the thermostat lets engine temperature get above 200 degrees F before it opens fully. The thermostat should maintain the engine temperature at about 180 degrees F.
The thermostat should maintain the engine temperature at about 180 degrees F. The two-wire sensor is for the Engine Computer. When there is a second sensor for the dash gauge it will have just one wire.
Unplug that one-wire sensor then see what the gauge does. If it stays on hot turn the ignition switch off then measure the resistance on that wire to a paint-free point on the engine block. It seems that the normal operating temperature range for your vehicle is between 190-225 degrees Fahrenheit so the temperature you read still falls within the normal range.
Engine hot light but temp gauge on dash reads normal 3 Answers. Have a 2008 Dodge Caliber after driving for about 15 or 20 minutes and most of time when its hot outside except for this time the engine hot light comes on and when I pop the hood to look the stu. After driving some time is it normal that the plastic spillover coolant tank usually attached to the fan housing that takes boiling overflow get so hot that you get bubbles boiling out of it even though the engine itself according to the temperature gauge on the dashboard does not get overheated.
But at 30F. Higher than normal temperature it starts to swing toward hot. That is why you do not see the fluctuations in engine coolant temperature with modern engines because it is dampened for customer satisfaction.
If your tractor is older or has a numeric gauge with some graduations there is a good chance it is NOT dampened. The temperature gauge in your vehicle is designed to indicate the temperature of your engines coolant. This gauge will tell you if your engines coolant is cold normal or overheating.
It is an important dial that is located on the dashboard of your vehicle. Reasons the Temperature Gauge Reads High. If the temperature gauge reads high it could mean your engine is overheating.
The normal range for all Darts with the analog gauges seems to be from just below the mid-line to just above. In the summer in city driving my 14T Dart which is calibrated to a lower temperature than the 24L but still seems to use the same normal range on the gauge does the same thing. No steam smoke or noises.
Everything under the hood seemed to be normal. As soon as we got back in and checked the temp gauge it read below normal. So it had cooled that quick.
There were never any check engine lights on the entire time. We drove about a 12 mile and the warning alarm beeps came on again and the gauge was in the hot.
