Evinrude etec 25 hp problems. I have a 2010 Evinrude 25 HP Model. 08751917 It tries to start and then dies. Occasionally it will struggle to run for a second or two then die.
I suspect a fuel issue but I am stuck at this point. The engine has less than 100 hours total. Here is what I have done.
Installed new plugs and fuel filter. 2010 Evinrude 25 hp E-Tec Problems Yes the motor is still under warranty since we just purchased it and we took it back to the dealer right after the problem arose. They looked at it and replaced what was necessary as BRP told them to.
I took it back out on the water and the issue came back seizing the motor right away. Failure to Start. There are a variety of reasons why an Evinrude E-Tec outboard motor may fail to start.
First check the fuel and oil levels. Change the oil and add fresh fuel. Set the idle speed to high as low idle speeds may not be enough to get the engine going.
Open the fuel cap vent and prime the engine. Heat soaked motor with throttle cut down to idle drops the water pump pressure and output to low level. Not enough to cool a hot heat soaked engine.
Make sure its propped correctlyIf so then after hard high rpm run run at 14 to 12 throttle for 5 minutes to cool engine down then idle. But I might have an issue and before I get too far along I thought I would ask for some advice. I have a 2011 Etec 25HP - model E25TESLIIH - new in 2011 and manufacture in 082010.
The boat and motor have been stored in doors all winter in a heated garage before we put it away the local shop replaced the starter on it. Because it crapped. I have a 2007 ETEC 250 HP which up until recently has run perfect with no issues.
Late last fall I had the 300 hour service work done by my local Evinrude Dealer. To my knowledge all of his techs are certified at least that is what the certificates on the wall indicates. After the service I noticed a distinct rough idle to my engine.
Ive since replaced the factory zap-straps that were holding the hoses on with actual hose clamps and have been out for a few trips since then and running without issue. I was recently flushing my motor using the flush-port hose connection and noticed that water seems to be coming out of the cowl towards the lower part of the leg. My 2005 Etec 225 gave me years of service.
Bombardier never really embraced Evinrude notice that they didnt design a 4 stroke. Parts and service will be out there for years. Our recent national economic problems gave them the excuse to discontinue it.
Their market share was so low that it really dint matter much to them anyways. Feb 23 2019. My 2010 model 25 hp Etec is giving me fits.

It is 2010 E-Tec 25 hp the second year we had it had to bring in to be serviced didnt start now we have a oil leak and had to have the oil container replaced. Then to our surprise wouldnt start now the computer is faulty which that wasnt bad enough the place we bought the motor does not sell them anymore so we found a man to fix but they wont sell parts unless a. Motor oil is completely incorrect and fouls the spark plug. The other fault is to mix fuel and two stroke oil in the wrong ratio.
Most chainsaws etc. Use a mix of 251 Too much oil causes oiling and misfiring of the plug. Too little oil causes excessive and fast wear.

I am pretty set on the 25 E-Tec as I can get it brand new out the door for only 400 more than the 20 Merc. Plus the Evinrude has a 5 yr warranty and no maintenance for 3 yrs or 300 hrs. I am going bare bones on the etec or Merc and the Merc is 115lbs for the 20 and the E.
2010 25 hp Evinrude Etec Outboard - YouTube. As already noted there were lower end problems with early Etec motors. On the Optimax some earlier models has issues with compressors and coils.
Looks like there were some 2013 Opti ProXS models that had some reed issues this year. There was a warranty bulletin on it. Every fault thus far can be attributed to Powertech bad installation.
However BRP Evinrude have not once stepped up to the plate to correct the issues willingly and finally. I bought an etec 90 had it 16 days done 135 hrs and the problem is it uses bugger all fuel 41nm for 25 litres and the oil i have used about 500mls in 135 hrs and that includes the double oil for the first 10 hours. And it its quite odourless.
The eTec motors were released under the Evinrude brand as a replacement to the previous Ficht motors which were plagued with problems from the start and often considered to be a large factor in the bankruptcy of OMC. During this time period BRPs other outboard brand Johnson continued to sell 4-stroke outboards.
