Here is a link to a gear oil test article. Your best bet is to stick with Evinrude lower unit gear oils. Maintain high performance boats with top quality Evinrude outboard gear oil.
Got a approx 10 up to 12 year old Evinrude 33hp 2 stroke outboard. Works ok but need a to change the gearbox oil. Have no manual so need any know what grade oil to use in the gearbox.

The bolts were in so tight I had to put a pipe wrench on the screw driver to break the bolts loose. Top bolt was removed first then the bottom bolt. Good news the old oil did not have any signs of water or metal shavings in it.
The Martin 60 72hp uses grease and not oil. If you have a Martin 75 75hp it uses SAE 40 oil. In the Martin 60 I use Lubriplate 105 but many folks on this forum speak highly of Cornhead grease which I believe they said is made by or for John Deere.
Milkey oil is a sign that the driveshaft seal or prop shaft seal is bad. I use the 80w evinrude gear oil but I am sure there is nothing wrong with regular gear oil. Throttle has several places that get gummy.

The smaller motors got nuked out because of the lighter oil mix. The Lightwin is a 100 friction motor. Oil is the cheapest thing you will ever put in an outboard.
Dont skimp on it. If you are sure its gear oil its gear case off drain and do a pressure test if possible otherwise inspect the shift rod boot change if necessary change it anyway and also change the drive shaft seals note they are fitted back to back. Dont attempt to reuse the gasket.
