How to remove bearing race from trailer hub. The bearing races on a trailer hub like the Trailer Hub Assembly part 8-258-5UC1 are removable they are not built into the hub. If playback doesnt begin shortly try restarting your device. Videos you watch may be. Races are difficult to remove but since you have one out already you can go into the opposite side from the race still in the hub and use a wooden rod to drive out the race.
I do not recommend using any metal tool unless it was designed for this application only wood because if the inner surface of the hub gets scratched it is pretty much done and would have to be replaced. Place the tip of a punch inside the hub against the inner bearing. Tap the back end of the punch with a hammer to knock out the inner bearing and seal.

I use a welder to take races out put a bead on the face of the race and it about drops out and if it doesnt you have something to hit on. To drive them in I grind off the OD a little and use that as a driver. I have always believed in regularly replacing my trailer bearings.
I boat in salt water and always dunk the axles. Dont always replace them regualrly but believe in it. Question is–replace bearings ony or bearings and races.

Every time you pack the bearings you have to destroy a seal and put a new one in its just the way works. There are actually two different ways of doing it I know that there is a special tool for it I dont have it most people dont. My problem was figuring out a way to get the bearing races out of the aluminum hub.
The stock Triumph hubs used tapered roller bearings on the outer end of the hub the side you see here and needle bearings on the inner end. Because those needle bearings are prone to disintegrating allowing the axle to saw itself apart against the hub whoever. It depends on the bearing race either inner or outer race since you would need different bearing race removal toolsets.
For the outer race you can use a slide hammer puller to get it out. A hammer and chisel can do the same too. Inner races are more complicated and the only easy way is to use the bearing separator and puller set.

The first thing to try to is add some penetrating oil like WD40 and let it sit for awhile. You can then try tapping the bearing to try and remove it. You dont want to hit it too hard because you can damage the spindle.
It is possible that the bearing has become welded to the spindle. An engineering shop should have a blind bearing puller. Run a line of weld around the inner race as it cools it will shrink and the race might come out.
Cut the race with a dremmel. Jake von Slatt sent us a link to this nifty legendary automotive tip for removing old bearing races from an aluminum axle hub. Theres no way of knocking or prying them out.
But if you weld a bead around the inside of the race when the weld cools itll shrink enough that itll come away from the hub so that you can install new bearings. Remove the inner bearing. Take the old grease out of the hub and clean its interior.
Wipe the old grease off the spindle hub bearings races and cap keeping any eye out for metal shavings that would indicate bearing failure. Then clean any remaining old grease off with parts cleaner. Ive got a Hope Pro 2 Evo rear hub that developed a load of play mid-ride.
Nursed it home and disassembled. Drove the non-drive-side bearing out with a single hammer strike on the axle. Slice the race as deep as you can without getting into the spindle.
You can grind it also if you dont have a cut off wheel just make a thing spot and hit it with the chiselThen take a chisel and hit it a few times straight into the cut you just made. The hardened race will split the rest of the way through. Use a paper towel and clean the back of the inner bearing by stuffing it through the outer bearing and through the center of the hub.
Once it is pretty clean in there you will see the two inner rings of the roller bearing. You will also see the outer most ring which is the back of the race. The bearing race ring is about 18th inch thick and you will only be hammering on this ring to remove the bearing all in one piece.
